One of the most visible buildings in the waterfront was the 17 storey high Tayside House. This building formed the principal office accommodation for Dundee City Council but was located over the site for the northern boulevard and central open space.
With a location immediately adjacent to the railway tunnel carrying the main east coast rail line as well as important road routes explosive demolition was not possible. The building was therefore demolished through a slower phased demolition process. The demolition process included processing and recycling the demolition material on site ready for use on other development projects within Dundee.
Dundee City Council’s main offices are now located at Dundee House in North Lindsay Street, within the City Centre.
