Due for construction during 2019, a new educational play area will be situated at the eastern side of the garden.
The design is to be focussed on the marine environment, and the design work is currently working towards the installation of a life-sized whale structure: representing a balance between Dundee past and present links with the sea. The site of Slessor Gardens was once the quayside of the King William IV Dock where trading ships from around the world were once docked. Those trading links of Dundee are reflected in the garden designs around Slessor Gardens.
The playpark is to include both active and educational play with technology and interactive elements which will be integrated within the structures on the site.
